Still Voices Presents a Special Screening of Call of the Forest in partnership with Whose Woods These Are Tree Festival.
La Flaca is a film about Arely Vazquez, a transgender woman and leader of the Santa Muerte (Saint Death) Cult in Queens, New York. During her yearly celebration to the Bony Lady ("La Flaca" as she likes to call her), Arely faces a lot of challenges to fulfill a promise she made ten years ago.
Adriana (aka Chica), is a Mexican-Brazilian filmmaker based in Los Angeles, USA. She was part of the Film Collective Cinefusão in São Paulo, Brazil, since 2009 where she took part of the script and art direction for the short films “Wax” (2009) and “String Quintet” (2010). She produced the feature films “Young and Miserable” and “A film of Cinema”, both directed by Thiago B. Mendonça.In 2018 she co-directed along with Thiago Zanato “La Flaca” (The Bony Lady), s short film about a Mexican transgender woman and leader of the Santa Muerte (Saint Death) cult in Queens, NY.
Thiago Zanato, is a Brazilian-American filmmaker and musician splitting his time between Los Angeles and São Paulo (Brazil). His work is focused on social issues and the aesthetics of representation as it relates to marginalized communities. He directed “La Flaca” and is currently directing his first feature documentary “Esu and the Universe", a co-production between Brazil and Nigeria.
