Still Voices 2022 Submissions Open
The submission call for the 2022 edition of Still Voices is now open.
Marian is a short experimental dance film inspired by the exhibition BLUE, at Garter Lane Gallery. It's a collaboration between the two makers Rachel and Gerard, exploring our maternal lineage, hair, the Catholic imagery of our childhoods, farm life, 90's punk girlbands, decay, domestic realities and the secrets passed from one generation of Irish women to the next. As first-time collaborators Ní Bhraonáin and O'Keeffe found a shared aesthetic and passion for visual storytelling, as well as a similar approach to filmmaking that allows for chance and spontaneity.
Rachel is a Waterford, Ireland, based artist making multidisciplinary shows and short films. With storytelling at the heart of her work, she combines everything from dance and writing to aerial and sound design, to create visually exciting and emotionally honest work. Her short film The Undecided Vote was featured in Dazed Digital and ELLE online, receiving critical acclaim. While her first full-scale live show Losing Your Body won the Wild Card Award at Dublin Fringe Festival 2019 and was nominated for an Irish Times Theatre Award for Best Movement Direction. Her interdisciplinary approach comes from her own varied experience as a physical performer on stage, on screen and on the sides of buildings.
