Cowboy Dave

Cowboy Dave is the semi fictional retelling of an encounter director Colin O'Toole had as a 12 year old boy with Dave Rowbotham (Durutti Column, The Mothmen) who was known to some as Cowboy Dave.

Writer / Director

Colin O'Toole has a broad range that has seen him direct TV commercials and content for leading brands and music videos for artists such as Ian Brown, Tricky and one of the biggest EDM stars Deadmaus. He has directed documentary shorts and drama for Channel 4 and promo's for 4 Creative.

His work has been projected in the Bilbao Guggenheim, The Louvre and the V&A as well as official selection at the 2011 Edinburgh Film Festival for the film ‘Let Us Be Golden' and tours with London's ‘Future Shorts' organization. He currently directs films for the Tate which have featured important artists such as Wolfgang Tillmans, Mark Leckey, Boris Mikhailov, Mona Hatoum, Martin Parr and David Hockney.

His latest short film - COWBOY DAVE - won a 2018 BAFTA for best British short film and stars Steve Evets (Looking for Eric) Sam Spruell (Snow White & The Huntsman, Starred Up) and Christine Bottomley (The Arbor, Vera Drake) His debut film DUFFY (screenplay and direction) is currently in development with Creative England and Mint Pictures.
